South Island | Queenstown | Skippers Canyon
People make the memories.
I’ve always wished to spend my birthday somewhere warmer. Never thought New Zealand is going to be the place, but at some point, someone(thing) has to break the ice. 😉
Queenstown didn’t need much to impress me. Wrapped in between mighty The Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu, this cozy town has something to make you feel comfortable.
Traveling means meeting new people. Every place I visited, brought in my life people from all around the world. Some of them were there for a second and gone forever, others were there a little bit longer and gone forever, but not many kept the connection alive.
Visiting the town was a good opportunity to spend time with Steve, a friend, that me and Luka met a few years ago on a busy train in India. Together we were tasting tea from Makaibari Tea Estate, watched local football game, traveled with the Toy train aka Darjeeling Himalaya Railway and finished our trip in magical Darjeeling.
I was temporary flatemate with himself and his friends in Queenstown, and even though I planned to stay only for a few days, I ended up staying for a week. The town and its surroundings give you so many things to do. The most unforgettable moments were 5-hours long hike to Ben Lomond and amazing views on the Southern Alps, mountain biking for the very first time (that was so much fun) and the best camping trip, following narrow, steep and literally scenic road into Skippers Canyon. Not only, that it was the best camping spot, we’ve had many side activities, such as shooting cans and spraying annoying sandflies.
Thanks Steve, Lucas & the company. 😉
