South Island | The Routeburn Track | Great Walks
What’s stopping you? That’s right. Nothing.
The Routeburn track is one of the Great Walks in New Zealand. Not as popular as Milford Sound, but still quite busy. All of the campsites and huts booked almost a year (!) in advance. The 32-km long track has good reasons for its popularity. Due to changeable weather forecast I prefer not to pre-book and make the final decision a day before. That’s why I was forced to walk 26 kilometers in one day, from The Divide all over the mountains (about 1000 meters altitude on the way) to reach the only available campsite in the Flats the same day. 8-hour long walk with a heavy backpack, gave me much more than it took from me – the views at the mountains and feelings of being in the middle of nowhere (didn’t meet many people in the afternoon) were spectacular.
