Ski Tour Fest in Montenegro / Albania / Kosovo
Ski Tour Fest
The amount of snow really spiced up this winter. The idea of backcountry skiing holidays somewhere abroad kept coming back to me, especially because we weren’t allowed to travel for quite some time. That’s why I decided to join the Ski Tour Fest in Montenegro.
When you think of the best active holiday destinations you wouldn’t think of Montenegro. You’d be surprised – it is. Since I have traveled the south quite a few times in the summer (with Balkan River Defence) I wanted to experience it in the winter as well.
A week-long event happening on the border of Montenegro, Kosovo and Albania, organised by a team of adventurous and outdoorsy locals. The skiing week started in Grope, ascending to Hajla and Ahmica peaks. It continued further south in the National Park Prokletije. The skiing conditions were perfect – big amounts of freshly fallen snow gave us unlimited powder opportunities.
The first accommodation, Grope Hut, was a lovely place. Delicious food and beautiful location. The owner even got us women flowers for the International Women’s Day. What a beautiful surprise! 😉
The second location – Prokletije National Park, was also a truly unique experience. We stayed in the huts without electricity and running water which didn’t affect our comfort zone. We enjoyed nights by the candles cooking tasty meals and hanging out. Each of us did something – Jure took care of chapati and freshly baked bread, Boris prepared steaks, me and Niko did the pancakes, and the others did the most important job – made sure we always have enough water (melting tons of snow). I feel lucky being able to spend these couple of days in the company of such a great guys.
I realised Balkan isn’t just the perfect summer destination for hiking and kayaking, but also the perfect winter destination for skiing. 😉
Thanks to everyone for your good vibes on the Ski Tour Fest.
See you next year. 😉
