South Island | Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki
“Not all those who wander are lost.” J. R. R. Tolkien (The Lord of the Rings)
After spending lovely two days with Leeyan and Ian, friends from Christchurch, I had to move forward. Since my birthday was coming up within a day, my wish was to wake up looking at the Mt. Cook. The perfect spot to do so is Lake Pukaki on the way to Queenstown. I took advantage of clear blue night and stopped by the Lake Tekapo first.
The lake is known for stunning Church of the Good Shepherd, which makes it an extremely popular photo destination. There was surely more than 50 people, taking photos from the same spot. Which makes my job easier, to search for new, different perspectives. But at the same time, it kills my inspiration, because I know there must have been a million people taking the same photos I’ve taken. I finished late and drove forward to the Lake Pukaki. Found a perfect freedom camping spot, hoping for a clear morning sky.
Unfortunately, I woke up in a foggy morning, which closed the view towards Mt. Cook, but made the colors of the lake stood out even more. That makes me happy enough.
