A feeling of Home - The Wilsons
When you travel a feeling of home is necessary. And not easy to get. But, what does make you feel like home? All of us, wanderers, home connect to everything else than a house. It can be a space, ofcourse. But what makes a space feel like home? That’s the energy of the people living there. Hospitality.

The feeling of home : The Wilsons

When you travel the feeling of home is necessary, but not easy to get. What does make me feel like home? All of us wanderers, home connect to everything else than the house. It is the energy of the people. The hospitality. I traveled a lot, but never felt it before, until I arrived to New Zealand. They are The Wilsons. Family I feel lucky to know them.

I met Kate a couple of years ago in Barcelona. A random dinner with people from our Hostel. Because of the slow service in a restaurant, we were running late for the upcoming thing – the dance perfomance. When majority of the people left, not to miss the performance, me, Kate and a few other people stayed there determined that we are not leaving before we get the coffee we paid for. I know this doesn’t sound like a big thing, but having a determination for a coffee in common is a big thing for me. 🙂

A year after, when I visited New Zealand for the first time, Kate invited me to her place. I met her lovely parents, Lee and Janette, her brother with his wife and one cute little girl with an adorable dog. I never thought they’re gonna become such an important part of my life.

During my first travel, they were a big support and help. But when I visited the country for the second time, they offered me a place to stay, lots of support during homesickness that happened mostly because of my dog and many other small things, that were extremely important to me. During that time, that little girl grew up in a big girl, and on top of it she’s got baby sister.

I will never forget the tasty and good looking dinners Janette made, wine tasting tour with Kate, painting the wooden fence of the new house, looking at little girls how much they grow up and literally everything that happened with them.

The Wilsons, thanks for having me there. I love you all and hopefully I’ll have a chance to spend some time with you soon.
